Boston Red Sox set 2010 Opening day roster04/04/2010 1:04 AM ET
BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Red Sox set their 2010 Opening Day 25-man roster by selecting left-handed pitcher Scott Schoeneweis to the active Major League roster and placing right-handed pitchers Daisuke Matsuzaka (15-day with a neck strain) and Junichi Tazawa (60-day with right elbow surgery) on the disabled list. Tazawa is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow on April 6.
Executive vice president/general manager Theo Epstein made the announcement.
The 2010 Opening Day roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders. Four players will begin the season on the disabled list (right-handers Boof Bonser, Matsuzaka and Tazawa, and infielder Jed Lowrie).
The Red Sox open their 110th season at home against the New York Yankees Sunday evening at 8:09 p.m. ET as part of Major League Baseball's season opener. Boston will start right-handed pitcher Josh Beckett with left-hander CC Sabathia taking the mound for the Yankees.

PITCHERS (12): Scott Atchison, Daniel Bard, Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz, Manny Delcarmen, John Lackey, Jon Lester, Hideki Okajima, Jonathan Papelbon, Ramon Ramirez, Scott Schoeneweis, Tim Wakefield
CATCHERS (2): Victor Martinez, Jason Varitek
INFIELDERS (7): Adrian Beltre, Bill Hall, Mike Lowell, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Marco Scutaro, Kevin Youkilis
