The club received 1,257 nominations from fans in 45 states and Puerto Rico, plus five countries outside the United States, Austria, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, and Japan. (The only states without a nomination were Idaho, North Dakota, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.) On Aug. 27, the club winnowed the nominations to 25 people...and a dog, "Big Pupi," a pooch from Austin, Texas. Each state in New England was represented in the Top 25, as were New York, Texas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and Japan. |

Tens of thousands of members of Red Sox Nation cast more than 160,000 votes to pare down the number of candidates for the "Presidency of Red Sox Nation" to ten... plus a dog. Top Ten: Mike Barnicle, Cheryl Boyd, Cindy Brown, Jared Carrabis, Rob Crawford, Peter Gammons, Rich Garces, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Sam Horn, Jerry Remy and the Dog, "Big Pupi". NBC's Tim Russert, host of "Meet the Press," made a guest appearance on NESN as he moderated a discussion among the candidates for the President of Red Sox Nation. The show, "Red Sox Nation: The Presidential Debate," was videotaped at Boston University's George Sherman Union on Thursday, September 27. |

Red Sox Hall of Fame second baseman and NESN analyst Jerry Remy won a convincing victory in the election of President of Red Sox Nation. "Regular fans," however, finished out the top 5, including "Regular Rob" Crawford, who finished decisively in second place, followed by Jared Carrabis, Cheryl Boyd, and Cindy Brown. More than 70,000 votes poured into the 4-day window. Fans voted online at redsox.com, via text messaging, and by postcard. |
