The Josh Beckett Foundation supports community based programs that strive to improve the health and well being of children, especially those that are seriously ill, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged. Each year, Josh hosts the Beckett Bowl which benefits the Foundation and Children's Hospital Boston.
The David Ortiz Children's Fund is dedicated to raising funds that enable children in the Dominican Republic and the Northeastern United States to have access to the pediatric critical care they need to live full, productive lives. The David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic held each December in the Dominican Republic raises money for the Fund.
David started the Pap's Pals ticket program in 2009. Three times during the season, children from Massachusetts General Hospital for Children meet David and enjoy a game at Fenway Park.
In 2007, Kevin established Hits for Kids, a charitable organization focused on raising support for charities and organizations focused on the health and wellbeing of children. Hits for Kids teams up with existing community-based children's charities and medical research programs in New England and in Kevin's hometown of Cincinnati to help them raise money and awareness.
Once a month, children from Massachusetts organizations get a chance to visit Fenway for a game and a meet-and-greet with Kevin through his Youk's Kids ticket program.
Through this special ticket program, Red Sox players and coaches donate tickets to highly deserving members of the community, such as teachers, military personnel, police officers, fire fighters, and community organizations. The program was started as an effort to recognize role models and to say thank you to all those in the community who make this world a better place to live.
Red Sox player's wives play an important role in community outreach efforts with their commitment to many important causes. The wives actively support the Red Sox Foundation by volunteering and participating in events like the Run to Homebase and Fenway to the Runway. The Red Sox players and their wives make appearances at schools, youth groups and hospitals. Many of the players and their wives purchase game tickets and food vouchers for kids, or provide direct financial support for youth groups.
