Red Sox Fellowship Program

The Boston Red Sox Fellowship program was created in 2006 to provide recent college graduates (and/or recipients of advanced degrees) the chance for immersion into the day-to-day operation of a sports franchise. The program provides an alternative method to increasing diversity in professional sports while also helping to attract talented college graduates into the sports industry.

Each year, the fellow will focus on an intensive, six-month working project while also getting the chance to participate in activities outside of their department. The Fellow will be paired with a senior level executive, who acts as a mentor, and will have access to additional resources throughout the program. At the Fellowship's conclusion, the Fellow will present his/her project findings to senior management. The program runs from July through December.

This year, we have identified a project that will provide the Fellow with a unique level of exposure throughout the entire Boston Red Sox organization. The project will be to research, design, and implement a new hire orientation program that will provide new employees insight into the baseball industry as well an introduction to the internal departments of the Boston Red Sox. The Fellow will gain significant exposure and experience in a professional environment while adding value to the Boston Red Sox organization, and their Human Resources platforms.

Requirements:

Fellows must have exceptional communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. All applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Fellows are expected to work peak operation times throughout their program including some nights, weekends and holidays.

All majors are welcome.

  • Cover letter that answers the following questions (400 words maximum):
      1. How can the Red Sox remain a leading franchise both on and off the field? What do you think is Human Resource's role in this endeavor?
      2. Please describe a time when you initiated or took a leadership role in developing an idea into reality. What did you learn from this experience and how would you apply it to your fellowship project?

  • Resume
  • Two references that we may contact (one academic, one professional, no family members please). For your references please do not submit letters of recommendation. Please provide name, title and contact information for each of your references.
